Pitch
My Pitch
At this point in my project I had some test footage for my idea so I decided to make a start on my pitch. The point of a pitch is to present my idea to a client in order to persuade them to fund the project I want to create. To do this I must incorporate as much detailed information as I can so that my client knows exactly what they are investing in. Along with this I must also give reason to why I have chosen the features of my idea. And explain why this will work well for the audience I will be presenting my idea too. so to begin I must first understand the client of this project, and what it is they will be expecting/wanting.
Who is my client???
My client for this project is TM Studio and during my pitch I must let my client know that I am following the PG rating they have requested. I must also link my Project to a target audience, to do this I did some research on the kind of people I think would be interested in this idea. I first tried to research what generation is the most interested in samurais. While I didn't find much information i did discover studies that mention how 54% of Gen Z have an interest in features of Japanese culture such as anime. While this isn't super great information it can still be useful in my pitch as I can mention how there is a rising interest in Japanese culture from Gen Z. Going into this I want to gather as much information as i can to make my pitch as convincing and professional as possible. To keep my facts organised and to make sure I don't forget anything I created a Miro board to keep track of my research.
Moving back to my research, instead of trying to find out which generations were more interested in samurai I decided to make my research more specific and look at which generations were more interested in comedic samurai medias. This was also unsuccessful as I couldn't find anything that gave me an idea of who might be interested in this type of video. So instead I decided to rethink my approach, and pick a generation then research why they could be interested in my idea. Instead of trying to find a generation who'd be interested in my idea. The generation I went for was Gen Z as I am a member of that generation, once all this was decided I continued to note facts on my Miro to improve my pitch.
I found many useful facts in my research as well as a useful graph that showed me the demand for certian shows for gen z based on research by a company called parrot analytics. With this graph I was able to visually convey my facts in the power point of my pitch. This conveys to the audience of my pitch that I have conducted a lot of research into the audience I am aiming this project towards. I made lots of notes on my Miro board about this graph so that id be prepared during my pitch. While doing this I noticed how there wasn't all that much research on whether or not Gen z were interested in samurai media. To fix this issue I decided to go out and gather some research of my own.
I did this by first writing out some questions for a survey. While writing these questions I targeted them towards the idea I had in mind. While writing these questions I also began to realize that this project could be something more then just a simple video. It could be presented as a test to see whether or not their would be an interest in creating a samurai comedy show based around the idea of samurais fighting with the power of cooking. This idea was inspired to me by shows like delicious in dungeons. Where they take a wacky concept such as eating and cooking monsters from a dungeon and develop them into professionally written shows with a comedy aspect. With this idea in mind I continued to write my questions for my survey
Once I had finished writing my questions I tried to gather as many participant's as I could for my research. I also tried by best to make sure that my data wasn't biased by interviewing people from different friend groups and trying to interview people of different ages within Gen z. The reason I decided to survey these people in person was because I felt like they'd express themselves more in person then over a online survey. This worked well in my first interview where my participant told me that he worked in catering, this made me curious to whether or not a person is more interested in a show that has contains an aspect of their day to day life. For example with my project this would be food and cooking as a lot of people my age are starting their first jobs in the catering business. Unfortunately I could not find any evidence to back this claim up but its safe to assume that it would be true since the show would be more relatable and interesting. I also made sure to ask for the ages of the people I surveyed so that I could understand exactly who my target audience was. Here are the interviews I conducted with my participant's:
Once I had finished my survey's I put them into graphs to make them professionally suitable for my power point.
The data I collected told me that
- While people would be interested in samurai content there hasn't been a lot of it for them to watch
- A lot of Gen Z work in catering meaning that they are often surrounded by food at all times this would make a show about samurais cooking interesting as it would reimagine a part of their daily life making it relatable whist also feeling refreshing and entertaining
- Gen Z have an interest in comedies as all the people I interviewed said yes
- Older members of Gen z are typically more interested in the Cinematic B-Roll technique
- Gen Z seem to be more interested in character driven shows
- The Chart from pea cock analytics is fairly accurate
- People are curious about my idea
- A lot of people agree that the cinematic B-Roll technique makes them hungry
However I still felt as if I had only gathered a small amount of data for my pitch so I also created a Microsoft forms survey for my class (who are all gen z) to complete. Here are the results from that survey.
With my own data collection done along with data gathered from research and other professional examples of similar ideas like the delicious in dungeons show I mentioned earlier. I now had enough information to start creating my power point. I first began by using a template my tutor had provided for me. This template gave me a foundation to base my pitch on which I could refer to while creating my pitch. Here is what the template pitch looked like.
After that I then went online and searched for PowerPoint templates that matched the themes of my project. After a little bit of searching I found a nice Japanese style template that I could base my work off. I knew from the start of my pitch that this time round I wanted to improve the aesthetic of my pitch as that was something I had received feedback on in my previous work. To do this I also added 3d models onto my pitch, these would add a professional well made look to my pitch while making it stand out from others due to its 3d movements. I added these models to my pitch by first signing up to a website called SketchFab while on this website I typed "Japanes tag:free" into the search bar. This showed me all the Japanese style 3d models that were free to download on the website
After that I then chose the ones I liked and downloaded them as @@@@ files. I then opened up power point and clicked add 3d models on this device.
I then clocked all files in the bottom right corner then finally imported the @@@@@ file into my Power point.
These 3d models worked great at elevating my projects look and aesthetic, and when coupled with the morph transition the 3d models move around the screen in a very satisfying way looking as if they were animated just for my pitch. Once these 3d models were imported I began writing about my idea along with its target audience. Using as much of my research as I could fit into each slide. My first few slides went well as I made sure to also mention the best way my project could be marketed towards a large audience. I found this out by researching which social medias have the most B-roll content on as well as the largest Gen z community.
As I carried on with my pitch I came to my @@@@ section where I needed to provide some of my test footage. my goal with this section was to present how my skills with the Cinematic B-roll style have improved during my project. However I wasn't sure which version of my roast dinner test footage I should use in my pitch. To solve this issue I turned to my peers for feed back on which version they thought was the best. I achieved this by creating another Microsoft forms quiz where I asked which video they thought was the best.
And here are the results I got back
Unfortunately my results ended in a tie. so I decided to create another quiz without video 1.
I next needed to to create the budget segment for my pitch I did this by using a website called "media dog hire" this website is used for renting film equipment which should allow me to understand how much my video equipment would cost for my day of filming. In total this added up to £300 for everything id need.
With camera equipment sorted I now needed to sort out my editing equipment. This is for things like the computer, keyboard, and mouse. for this I used amazon to try and see how much it would all cost.
So all together my budget so far is equal to £1260.54. However if I am planning toads foley to my work I will probably need to rent out a sound studio record in. I looked online to try and find an exact amount that a foley studio could be rented for but only found out that most studios require you to email them in order to negotiate prices. But it's still safe to say that to rent one for an hour would likely cost around £100. This however does include many props that I can use to enhance my Foley.
Once I had noted down my budget onto my slides I was finally left with this finished result.
